Das Ericsson i888 world führte 1998 die neue Technik der 8er Reihe (SH 888 und S 868 ) fort. Es kann sowohl im GSM-900 Netz als auch im amerikanischen GSM-1900 Netz aktiv sein. Ein eingebautes Modem mit Infrarot-Schnittstelle erlaubt die drahtlose Daten- und Faxübertragung von Handy zu PC.
